How the site works with screen readers, keyboards and reduced motion, what we know still needs work, and where to write if something is in your way.
Last reviewed: 16 October 2026.
Mutual Act wants everyone to be able to browse the collection, read about the pieces and buy them — whatever device, assistive technology or ability you bring. This page says what we have done so far, what we know still needs work, and how to reach us if something is in your way.
1. Our standard
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We test with keyboard-only navigation, with screen readers (VoiceOver on iPhone and macOS) and with automated checks, and we fix what we find as part of normal site work rather than as a separate project.
2. What is in place
- Keyboard: every link, button, size chip, gallery control and form field can be reached and operated with the keyboard alone. A visible focus outline shows where you are. A “Skip to content” link is the first stop on every page.
- Screen readers: pages use proper headings, landmarks and labels. Product photos have descriptive alternative text. Adding a piece to your bag, selecting a size and form errors are announced aloud.
- Sold-out sizes are marked both visually and in text, so they are never conveyed by colour or strike-through alone.
- Dialogs (size guide, menus) keep focus inside while open, close with Escape and return focus to where you were.
- Motion: the homepage slideshow has a visible pause button and stops while you hover or focus it. If your device asks for reduced motion, animations are switched off site-wide.
- Text and contrast: body and secondary text meet the AA contrast ratio on every background we use. You can zoom the page to 200% and beyond without losing content or functions; we never block pinch-zoom on phones.
- Touch targets: controls on phones are at least 44 × 44 pixels.
- Forms: every field has a visible label, errors are written in plain language next to the field, and nothing in checkout is timed.
- Checkout works with autofill and password managers, and your address is saved to your account so you do not have to type it twice.
3. Known limitations
- Short product videos are hosted on YouTube and do not yet carry captions or audio description. They show the piece being worn and contain no information that is not also in the text and photos.
- Some alternative text for archive and campaign photography is generated automatically and then reviewed; a description may occasionally be less precise than we would like.
- The site is in English only.
- The payment page itself is provided by our payment provider and is outside our direct control; we have chosen a provider whose hosted page supports keyboard navigation and screen readers.
If any of these stops you from buying, write to us and we will complete the order with you by email.
4. Tell us
If you find a page or a step that does not work for you, email hello@mutual-act.com. Say which page it was, what you were trying to do and, if you can, which browser and assistive technology you use. We answer every message, usually within a day or two, and we fix confirmed problems as a priority.
We would rather hear about a problem once than have it stop ten people quietly.
